As I Cee It

I split this post into two because it was really long. The first half concentrated on the shows that are actually airing right now (as far as I know) and the ones that I’ve quit watching. Here, we’ve got the shows that I’m catching up on.

NETFLIX:
Hart of Dixie (CW) – I’m kind of embarrassed about this one. Netflix told me I would 3.0 like it and I didn’t have anything to watch one day so I queued it up on a Friday night (in December, maybe?). Four episodes later, I couldn’t tell you why I was still watching. Nor could I explain why Ioke up the next morning and watched 5 more. I finished the first season, plus the second season premiere in less than one week. I’m not watching it now as it airs, but when season two hits Netflix (I’m thinking late fall), I’ll probably jump back in.

The West Wing (NBC, 1999-2006) – Why didn’t anyone tell me how awesome this show is? I’m in the early episodes of season three and I’m enthralled. Enthralled, I say. Man. Aaron Sorkin is a freakin’ genius and my newly discovered love for this show has led me to…

It’s been a while since I’ve done a television post, so let’s do that.

My television schedule isn’t as crazy as it used to be back when I was un-/newly employed. Also, some of the shows I liked have since ended, and there haven’t been enough new shows to take their places. But let us start with arguably the best show on television right now, the show I waited an entire year for, the latest from the creative genius that is Ms. Shonda Rimes. (The rest of the shows will be detailed according to air date/time.)

Scandal (ABC, Thursdays, 10p) – Best. Show. Ever. If you don’t watch this show, I sincerely believe you have awful taste in television. Point. Blank. Period. Kerry Washington’s Olivia Pope is made of awesome and I want to be like her when I grow up. Well, you know, without the adulterous, star-crossed love affair she’s going going on with the POTUS. And, OH, the POTUS. He’s got game. As in, I can see how she ended up in the situation she’s in with him. The man has a way with words… and actions. Aside from that, the writing is great, the stories blow my mind, and the suspense rocks my world. What more can you ask for?

Due to the departure of Peyton Manning from the Colts*, I found myself without a favorite team last season (2011). I figured I might as well be a fan of the home team until such a time that I was able to really connect with a club. Here it stands at the end of the 2012 season, and I’m still rooting for the home team.** With my cheering them on, the Ravens are going to the Super Bowl! And my city is lit up purple at night. It’s a beautiful thing to see, I tell ya. Even better is that a good friend of mine kept betting against them in the playoffs. He told me that Peyton Manning and his new team were gonna knock them out (the Ravens won in an exciting, albeit LONG, double overtime game). He texted me on the day before the AFC Championshiop game: “Tom Brady is going to speak at Ray’s retirement party tomorrow. How nice.” (The Ravens defense shut out the Patriots in the second half.) Surprisingly (or not), he hasn’t said anything about what will happen this coming Sunday in New Orleans. Imagine that…
