the princess and the knight.

Once upon a time, a young and social princess lived the life of other princesses her age. She worked by day and played by night and weekend. Then one day, she happened upon someone she knew only by name. Introduced by a friend, they began a no risk relationship that lasted for one month, at which point the princess thought the cost of the relationship too steep.
It was less than a year later that they met again by accident. This time, the princess was not strong enough to resist the knight’s charms. In their time apart, the knight gained more knowledge, was funnier, and could expose her to many things she’d missed, but longed to see. But their relationship became toxic. Before the princess noticed, the knight was controlling her life. Through the winter, they were close and there was no need for either of them to go out. However, even in warm months, the princess spent much of her time with the knight. With her new job, she was able to go home earlier and thought only of the extra time she could spend with the knight. And so it went for months and months. Outings with friends fell to the wayside. Phone calls were a bit more scarce. It seemed nearly impossible to bridge the gap between the princess and her knight and the rest of the world.
Until the princess was informed of the impending departure of a friend to a far away land. The princess mustered the strength to escape the now claustrophobic embrace of the knight, met up with her trusty sidekick, and journeyed out to say her goodbyes. It was during this farewell that the princess realized that her gallant knight and beautiful home had become a prison.
And she vowed she would not continue to let it be so.

Since then, I’ve been indoor rock climbing twice, went to a baseball game, bowling, lunch and dinner with friends, hanging out with family, and I’m doing a 5K this month. All while maintaining a less ridiculous relationship with the knight – Sir Netflix.

I meant to write this yesterday, or even Thursday, but… Well, I didn’t.
Being single with no prospects for as long as I have been (stunning news, I know) means I don’t pay much attention to Valentine’s Day. I’m not bitter or angry about it, it’s just a non-factor in my life. And when you don’t have a Valentine, you don’t expect anything, which is why I was quite surprised to come home to this:
My oldest nephew left this for my mother and I causing us both to walk to the table in a daze with our mouths hanging open. As much as I complain about that kid, he really comes through sometimes. (The card was signed by all my nephews, but I know the oldest one selected the cards and gifts.)
In return, I put sugar, sweat, and tears to work on Valentine’s Day cupcakes.
(This is my third attempt at the Simple Vanilla Cupcakes and [slightly modified] cream cheese frosting from Joy the Baker’s cookbook.)
And do you know after all my work on these cupcake representations of my love for my sister’s children only one of them deigned to eat them?
Oh. I’m back to complaining about them already. That was quick.
we are the champions.

Obviously, I couldn’t write this last night, as my bedtime is 10:30 pm and I didn’t get home until after 11:00, which means I printed my hair, changed my clothes, and crashed.
The Ravens won the Super Bowl! Lombardi trophy! Parade time!
If you follow me on Twitter and Instagram, you got all my pictures, my celebrations, and my rage last night during and after the game. I felt so many things it’s a wonder I wasn’t completely drained this morning. But, alas, I got up and donned my purple-ish blazer for Winners’ Monday. (Above picture on the right is admittedly not the best photo I’ve ever taken.)
Most people are probably psyched about the glory of winning a Super Bowl. And usually I am. I might have been more excited about the win if they’d played better in the post-outrage, but… it felt a bit ugly. However, a win is a win, ugly pretty, glorious, or messy. And this is the biggest win of them all. So this year, IK’m excited about the parade. If you watched the game you know after the power outage (I blame Beyonce) the Ravens started to crumble… or the 49ers just got themselves together. Whichever. I Started to get a bit angry. At one point, I shouted, “Get it together! I want a parade!!!” I think they heard me, bedcause the Ravens parade is tomorrow and guess ho’s going ghost from her job to attend? That’s right. This girl.
Say what you want about my city., but we are united in purple and I can’t wait to welcome the Super Bowl Champion Baltimore Ravens back home tomorrow.
