Day 9: Christmas Movies

We’ve already talked about holiday music, now it’s time for the movies. I absolutely love Christmas movies. I mean, just love them. The cheesier, the better. I especially love the made-for-tv romantic ones. I’m thinking I might make a separate list of those, because those are a whole ‘nother ball game. For now, let’s stick to the big ones.

  1. The Holiday – I watch this movie every year. I’ve already watched it this holiday season. I love everything about it and I especially love Cameron Diaz’s wardrobe and her hair. And also Jude Law’s gorgeous blue eyes.
  2. A Charlie Brown Christmas – Obviously.
  3. Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer – Because this is my most favoritest Christmas movie ever. I loved it as a child when it was a tradition to watch with my mother and I love it now. I think my sister even watches it with her brood each year. This movie has somehow managed to entertain generations…. because it is amazing.
  4. This Christmas – I really enjoy watching this movie. It’s got heart and humor and a fantastic soundtrack. Who could ask for anything more?
  5. How the Grinch Stole Christmas – I certainly couldn’t forget this classic. This one is my mom’s favorite and we will probably make time to watch it together this year.

Let’s start this feature off with some Netflix films! It’s no secret that I love Netflix. I mean, I really love Netflix. So it should come as no surprise that I’m ready to highlight them… again.

I not only use Netflix to watch TV shows, but also to find random movies I would never have been able to watch otherwise.

For this week, here are three independent movies I discovered on Netflix and loved:

Tonight You’re Mine
Unfortunately, this really fun festival film is no longer available on Netflix. Originally titled You Instead, the whole movie takes place over one night at the T in the Park festival in Scotland. Watch if you like: music films, indies, medicore acting, Tainted Love remixes, cuteness

L’arnacoeur (Heartbreaker)
French movies!! This is the most American French movie ever. I loved it! It’s about a man who is a professional heartbreaker. That’s what he gets hired to do. To lure women away from men who don’t treat them well…until he falls in love with one of them. Watch if you like: subtitles, romantic comedies, slight overacting, the iconic Dirty Dancing final scene

In Your Eyes
Joss Whedon wrote this movie, and because of that, I assumed it would be odd and have a terrible indie ending (which is to say unhappy). It was, however, very sweet with adorable main characters. The basic premise is that two strangers realize they have a telepathic connection and develop a friendship of sorts. Their friendship is amusing, and precious, and perfect. Watch if you like: romance, weird things like telepathic connections, men with accents who say “darlin'”
