As I Cee It

Day 24: Fashion Inspiration - Pajamas!

Pajamas are one of my favorite things. I adore them. They can be cute or sexy, cool or warm, but most importantly, they are comfy and cozy. My stepmother has gifted me with a few pajama sets from Victoria Secret’s PINK line for the last few years. I love them. I also enjoy getting nice and comfortable in my PJs on Christmas Eve and waking up and opening gifts in them. Looking for some inspiration? I’ve got some choices here.

Here’s the comfy section! I’m a huge fan of boxers (men’s and women’s – they’re both comfortable to me) and this Dreamer Flannel Boxer PJ set in Christmas Plaid from VS ($45) looks extremely comfortable. If you’re not into shorts, there’s always the Dreamer Henley Pajama Set (currently on sale for $39.50), which has pants instead. Both Dreamer sets come in several prints and colors. There’s also the men’s inspired set that always looks classic to me. Try the Bluebella Claudia set on ASOS ($69). Or a TLC “Creep” style of Crazy Sexy Cool Pajamas at VS, too – the Afterhours Satin Pajama seems perfect for that. (Don’t know what I’m talking about? Check out the video on YouTube.)

Now for the slightly sexy selections. Keep some comfort with these two Satin Cami & Short Sets from Victoria’s Secret ($52) and ASOS ($47). Want to go a step further? Check out this lace set from H&M ($24.99).

Day 23: Christmas Traditions

Alright, folks. There are two days left until Christmas. I thought I would share a few of our traditions. I’m part of a fairly large family on my mom’s side. My maternal grandmother had eight children and they all have children…and their children have children. You see where this is going. When my grandmother was alive, we always congregated at her house for major holidays. In the dozen years after she passed away, there were a few different houses and plans. Now, I think we’ve gotten to a pretty stable fall/winter calendar.

I’ve already mentioned that my mother hosted a Christmas part the second week of December. This is the third year, I believe, that she’s done it and she plans to continue. For our smaller family, my mother, me, my sister and her family (her husband and three boys) get together on Christmas Eve along with my BFF JK to celebrate. We eat (usually seafood) and open presents. My sister started the tradition when her boys were younger so that she could spend Christmas morning with her family without worrying about getting up and leaving her house early. I love that it’s time that our group can get together and I’ve always enjoyed watching the boys open their gifts.

The big shebang, however, is Christmas brunch at my aunt’s house. People start arriving around 10 and the party has been known to last until 4 in the afternoon. My aunt will even include a theme every now and then for how we should all dress. In the past they’ve been as simple as the color red, as comfortable as pajamas and as hometown as Ravens. Everyone looks forward to it each year – the seemingly endless amounts of food, the mimosas (yum!) and the laughter. It’s such a great way to spend the holiday.

Day 22: Last Minute Gift Ideas

You are seriously up against a deadline here. I advised you of a few last minute sales last week, but you procrastinated and here you are… December 22, no gift for at least one person on your list. What to do??

Here’s the bad news – you’re kinda screwed. The good news – you’re not all the way screwed. We can still pull a few things together. Bonus: Most of these are DIY projects.

  1. For the Christmas Breakfast/Dinner Hostess (or the female co-worker who got you something but you didn’t get anything for her – yikes!): DIY Gold Dot Champagne Flutes – Quick, easy, and really cute. I might have to make a set of these myself. If I do, I’ll be sure to share how that goes.
  2. For Your Teenage Daughter (or your sorority sister who loves things with her initials on them): Yarn-Wrapped Ombre Monogrammed Letter – I actually made these for my goddaughters last year. I was quite pleased with the results. While the project wasn’t difficult, it definitely required patience. Tip: Buy the yarn that already has an ombre effect. that way you don’t have to buy more than one skein and it makes it a little easier on you by removing any sort of transition.
  3. For Your Brother-in-Law (or cousin who also enjoys a good cocktail now and then): Jack Daniels Gift Set, $45.97 – You can either rush this order from Amazon or visit your local liquor store to see what they have. There are a few near me that have great options. Be prepared to drop some money on this gift though.
  4. For the Sports Fan (or the man in your life who has a sweet tooth): DIY Gumball Machine – To make this more sports themed, Mod Podge a team logo where the fake knob is. One of my friends created a Carolina Panther-themed one last year and it was fantastic.
  5. For Your Wife (who doesn’t need to know you forgot to pick up something besides the gift she explicitly told you to purchase): DIY Mini Spa Jar – Add a few of her favorite nail polish colors, nail file, cotton balls. As a bonus, throw in a gift certificate for her and best friend to have a day at the spa.
