If you’re a fan of Mariah Carey, then this post is for you. We’re all familiar with her first Christmas album Merry Christmas (1994) and most of us know she released a second one, Merry Christmas II You, over 15 years later in 2010. But there’s more!
This year, Mariah is joining Hallmark for the holidays. On Saturday, December 19, there will be a double dose of Ms. Mariah. She is hosting a Christmas special…right after the premiere of her holiday movie A Christmas Melody. And when I say “her holiday movie,” I mean starring AND directed by Mariah herself. I could barely contain my glee when I saw the preview (click below to watch). I don’t know how this movie is going to turn out, but I’m certainly not going to miss it.

In my previous post about Christmas movies, I shared that I absolutely love the made for TV holiday movies. I look forward to them every year. This year, I started on Black Friday and have been watching them ever since. Here are a couple of my favorites, along with a few new ones this year that weren’t too bad. (I still have about 3 on the DVR that I need to catch up on plus a few more scheduled, including 2 more starring Lacey Chabert.)
- Dear Santa (Lifetime, 2011) – A young girl being raised by a single dad sends a letter to Santa asking for a mom. This one is so cute and adorable. As with most of these movies, the acting could use some work (Amy Acker is fine, it’s the rest of those folks…), but you have to go into every made for TV holiday movie knowing that you’re not getting Oscar-worthy performances.
- 12 Men of Christmas (Lifetime, 2009) – Kristin Chenoweth stars as a PR exec who ends up in a small town in Montana and creates a calendar to raise money. The fact that Kristin is in this movie was reason enough for me to love it.
- Matchmaker Santa (Hallmark, 2012) – In this one, a young woman and her boyfriend’s best friend end up stranded in a small town while trying to get to the boyfriend’s cabin to celebrate the holidays. Unbeknownst to her, the boyfriend’s best friend (who is the one responsible for picking out her presents and ends up taking the boyfriend’s place when he’s late for dates) has feelings for her.
- A Gift Wrapped Christmas (Lifetime, 2015) – One of two personal shopper based movies I’ve seen this year, A Gift Wrapped Christmas focuses on female lead whose personality is amazing. I watched this one with my mother and we both loved the character enough to overlook the not-so-good looking male lead and the underwhelming acting of the other cast members.
- Merry Matrimony (Hallmark, 2015) – Did you watch the 90210 remake? Well, Jessica Lowndes (Adrianna from 90210) is in advertising and must work with her ex on a wedding campaign. There are a ton of people in this one that were struggling with their characters, but it wasn’t bad. The movies aren’t as good this year as they have been in years past. This one is one of the better premieres I’ve seen this season.

This is not the best description for her, but I’m going with it. This gift guide is inspired by my other BFF. She’s far more hip than I and more fashionable for sure. A few things are actually on her wishlist and a couple are things that I think she’d like. As you can see, there are gender neutral items that might for the hip guy in your life.
- Embellished Gold Bracelet (J. Crew Factory, $17.99, reg. $36.50) – Because she probably likes jewelry. I love this necklace and I love that it’s on sale, too.
- Sony USB Stereo Turntable (Amazon, $128.00) – Albums seem to be making quite the comeback. While I don’t have one, I can certainly see why anyone would want one. This turntable will also convert your vinyl tracks to digital format.
- Michael Kors Petite Darci Crystal Bezel Bracelet Watch (Nordstrom, $181.35, reg. $195.00) – Every lady needs a gorgeous watch. I’ve seen several MK watches that are absolutely beautiful. You can check the MK site for more options or any major department stores if you’re looking for sales and discounts
- FitBit Charge (Amazon, $90.30, reg. $129.95) – I happened to purchase one of these for someone else in my life. I was stunned to see the price difference depending on the size and color. Right now, these are on backorder on Amazon, as was mine. However, I ordered it on Wednesday and it arrived this morning. If you’re looking for a different retailer, Best Buy doesn’t have them on sale, but will price match what you find on Amazon.
- Purple Rain – Prince (Amazon, $20.99) – I love a good package/combo/companion gift. This would go well with the Sony Turntable. As I mentioned, vinyls are all the rage these days and most Barnes & Noble locations have a pretty good selection. I’ve seen Michael Jackson, Adele, soundtracks (Saturday Night Fever, Grease, Clueless), Sinatra, Lana Del Rey, The Beatles, Kendrick Lamar… The options are quite varied.
- Friedline Crossbody Bag in Cognac (Aldo, $45.00) – It’s a handbag essential – the crossbody. Great for festivals or traveling.
